Weighted Grading Policy

Last year, Saline Area Schools convened a committee of teachers, community members, board members, and administrators to review the practice of weighting grades at Saline High School. After a careful of review of all the factors, the committee determined that, in the best interest of our students, the weighting of Advanced Placement (AP) courses will allow our already well prepared students to better position themselves for college admissions and opportunities for college scholarships. Grades in AP courses will be weighted based on a 5 point scale which is an increase of 1.0 over the 4 point scale that is used for all other courses.

Effective August 25, 2010 transcripts will reflect the new weighted grade policy and will be retroactive for all AP courses for a student’s entire high school career.

Summer Culinary Camp

The two week program, led by Chef Musto, focused on Healthy Eating as the students prepared scratch recipes. Students made such items as mac and cheese, pizza and learned the difference of cooking from sratch opposed to eating frozen, boxed foods that contain dyes and chemicals. Students learned to make items they enjoy eating and how scratch cooking provides a healthy diet lower in sodium, fats and contains more fiber and protein.
