Saline Area School Community,
At the last meeting of the Board of Education, two seniors from Saline High School presented a project entitled the Saline Area Schools Community Forum. This forum is a web-based discussion board designed to foster open dialogue between community members regarding the issues facing Saline Area Schools, as well its accomplishments.

As stated above, this website was created by two students working independent of the school district itself. Saline Area Schools is in no way directly affiliated with the website. The involvement of all community members is welcomed, and we encourage you explore the website, visit the “About Us” section, and create an account.

The Saline Area Schools Community Forum is located at www.salineforum.com. For any further information, feel free to contact matt@salineforum.com or michelle@salineforum.com

Two Saline FFA members won 1st Place Gold in their respective contests beating out contestants from 16 other schools at the Region II FFA Leadership Contests held at Blissfield High School last night. They now will compete against 8 other state finalists at the Michigan FFA State Convention held at Michigan State University March 10 - 12th, 2010
Kristina Schneider, sophomore, won 1st Place - Gold in Greenhand (9th-10th grade) Prepared Public Speaking Contest with her 8 minute memorized speech on organic food. In the speech, she explains the problems of genetically modified foods, and the advantages of organically grown foods for nutrition, markets and profitability for local growers. She was inspired for the speech by visiting the booths of seed companies and organic growers at the National FFA Convention and Career Show in Indianapolis this past October.

Kathryn Souders, senior, won 1st Place - Gold in the Job Interview Contest. In that contest she had to submit a prepared cover letter and resume for a job as a horse training assistant, fill out a job application in 15 minutes and interview for 15 minutes before a panel of judges.

Mary Kumbier, a representative of the American Red Cross, came to Heritage School on Tuesday, February 16 to accept a check for the International Relief Fund for Haiti, donated by 5th & 6th grade students.

Students learned about the horrific reality of the recent Haitian earthquake.  They were moved by the stories of suffering and devastation, and those of hope as survivors were rescued.  They wanted to know how they could help.

Students advertised using posters and made video clips to play on morning announcements to rally up support.
From January 25-29, Heritage students collected spare change to donate to the American Red Cross International Relief Fund for Haiti.  They collected a total of $ 2934.15!

The students at Heritage School should be proud of their efforts to help others in times of trouble!  The road ahead is long for Haiti, Saline students know that this contribution will help to make a small difference in the lives of the millions that were affected.
