Operation Christmas Child – Classroom Participation!

November 19th, 2009 | by funkymonkeys |

One of my students, Kaylee, opened the doors to participating in Operation Christmas Child on this very blog a few weeks ago.  She really inspired me and our entire classroom help those in need.

Operation Christmas Child is a program operated through Samaritan’s Purse, an organization that provides international relief.  Within Operation Christmas Child, individuals pack a decorated shoe box with school supplies, toiletry items, and toys for children in need.

At the beginning of the week, we all brainstormed the kinds of things that a child in need may be wishing for.  Within days, we were all bringing in items to help.  Today, Thursday, November 19th, we completed our boxes.

I am so proud of the students and how hard they worked to create the boxes.  I have attached some photos below of the boxes and the creation of them.  If you are interested in making one yourself, please visit the following website:

    Hey Mr. Foster,
I LOVE this idea and I LOVED reading that the students at Heritage are collecting change for Haiti. I planning to stop this week to add my Obama for Change jar of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters to the fish tank. Maybe I could join your class Thursday or Friday morning for this event. Let me know time and place.
    Keep your wits.
