Heritage Students Collect over $2900 for Haiti Relief
Feb 16th, 2010 by Betty Rosen-Leacher

Students at Heritage school were moved by the stories of suffering, devastation and hope as survivors of the Haitian earthuake were rescued. Because of these stories they were moved to take action and wanted to know how they could help. Students advertised using posters and made video clips to play during morning announcements to rally up support for this cause.

From January 25-29, 5th and 6th grade students collected spare change to donate to the American Red Cross International Relief Fund for Haiti and collected $2934.15!

We are so proud of our students at Heritage school for their efforts to help others in times of trouble. The road ahead is long for Haiti, but we hope that this contribution will help to make a small difference in the lives of the millions that were affected.

Students will be drop their loose change in their classrooms, the containers will then be collected and dumped into a fish tank near the main entrance for students to watch the collection grow for the week. New Heritage School Parking Lot Procedure Beginning 1/7/2010
Jan 5th, 2010 by Betty Rosen-Leacher

It’s A Great Day At Heritage!

As we continue to see an enormous back-up in our parking lot each morning we have developed a new procedure for curbside only drop-off in the morning. Access to the parking lot for drop-off will no longer be an option. Please carefully review the plan below:

#1:   Entering the Parking Lot (SEE #1 ON THE MAP)
When you enter the parking lot in the morning, you will notice that traffic backs up in both eastbound and westbound directions. As a result, we ask that you follow a rotation system of allowing one car traveling westbound to turn left into the parking lot, followed by a car traveling eastbound to turn right into the parking lot. This allows for a better and safer flow into the parking lot.

#2:  CURBSIDE DROP-OFF AT HERITAGE/HERITAGE ANNEX (SEE #2 ON THE MAP)
•    Stay in the right lane only
•    Pull all the way through the drive up to the orange drop-off zone signs that are posted. They are just before the Woodland Meadows/Annex   crosswalk or near the flagpole and utilize the entire drop-off zone beginning at Woodland Meadows/Annex and following around to Heritage school (see #2 on the map indicating the full drop-off zone).
•    Students should be ready to exit the car immediately along the curbside (7 seconds or less) as there will be cars waiting behind you.
•    Students should exit the vehicle only on the curbside to avoid traffic in the left lane.
•    Please DO NOT stop at a specific door along the drop off loop. Students will need to walk either back to Heritage or up to the Annex.
•    After you child is dropped off, please proceed forward all the way around the circle, do not move into the left lane as this lane is for cars needing to park in the parking lot to enter one of the buildings.

#3:  PARKING AT HERITAGE OR HERITAGE ANNEX (SEE #3 ON THE MAP)
•    If you need to park at either Heritage or Heritage Annex/Woodland Meadows stay in the left lane and travel around the lot and enter the parking lot from the Woodland Meadows side using the second (2nd) entrance to the lot.

Again, we appreciate all of you working with us to make Heritage School safer for our students.

Mr. Brunty’s Class Celebrates The Lightening Theif
Nov 17th, 2009 by Betty Rosen-Leacher

Students in Mr. Brunty’s class celebrated the conclusion of reading The Lightening Thief during lunch with a feast celebrating the Olympus gods and Hades. Students decorated their tables and created a menu of food that honored the god that their table represented. Centerpieces were made by students and using only household items. This was a wonderful culminating activity to a terrific novel.

Having Fun at Camp Kimball
Nov 5th, 2009 by Betty Rosen-Leacher

Seven of our fifth grade classes attended Camp Kimball this week. I had an opportunity to join the classes on Wednesday and visit for a short time with three of the classes who were getting ready to depart camp and return to Saline and then spend the rest of the day with the four classes who arrived Wednesday morning for their three day Camp Kimball adventure. After spending just one day with our students I can see clearly why fifth grade camp is a highlight of the students educational experience in Saline.

I had the opportunity to watch our students participate in the high ropes course, pendulum swing, orienteering, hiking, and pioneers and settlers. Fun was being had by all, parents, students, and teachers alike.
